LET THEM BE KIDS - ROCHESTER HEIGHTS, OTTAWA, ON
LET THEM BE KIDS
Let Them Be Kids is all volunteer non-profit organization created to build community capacity on the grassroots level, while building playgrounds, skate parks and fitness parks across Canada. These projects leave a legacy of community members who are inspired and better equipped to lay a strong foundation for a brighter tomorrow.
THE CHANGES WE ARE CREATING
Rochester Heights is an inner city community made up of 104 townhouses located in the heart of the culturally diverse Somerset West neighbourhood in west central Ottawa. Like many high-density communities there are a large number of families dealing with multiple barriers related to poverty, language and culture. When local residents were asked their priorities to make their community a better place to live, the overwhelming response was a safe and fun place for children to play. The existing play structure is several decades old, and many parents do not allow their children to play on the structure as it is widely deemed as unsafe.

Community Effort Update
With our Build Day being a week from tomorrow, the Playground Comittee wanted to send along a brief update on the specifics of that day.
On Aug 28, we will be constructing two playgrounds, one on the Raymond side of our neighborhood and the other on the Balsam side, as well as running a few other efforts. We will be removing graffiti, gardening and painting new games on surrounding cement areas. Children's activities have been planned and include youth-led sports, crafts, painting and baking. Finally, our big day will end with a Dedication Ceremony.
We look forward to seeing everyone there and making our children's dream of safe, modern and attractive playareas a reality!
